Focus on Business & Design Innovation

The MMM Program is an immersive dual-degree program that gives students a rigorous business education integrated with a strong foundation in design innovation. MMM graduates receive an MBA from Kellogg and an M.S. in Design Innovation from the Segal Design Institute at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science.

The First of its Kind

The MMM Program is the first degree-granting program of its kind, going beyond the traditional MBA. Over the course of two years, students learn best-in-class methodologies for driving innovation, utilizing design thinking tools such as user-centered research methods, creative ideation, rapid prototyping and operational implementation.

The MMM Program prepares graduates to succeed in careers that lie at the intersection of business, technology and design. Graduates leave ready to design and manage end-to-end solutions, understanding how to strike a balance between big-picture approaches and detail-oriented processes. The MMM Program uniquely positions its graduates for a variety of roles ranging from corporate innovation and design consulting to product management in technology and entrepreneurial ventures.

  • Become an innovation expert
    The MMM Program equips future business leaders to drive the entire innovation lifecycle of a product, service or business strategy. Students learn to think holistically by striking a balance between the analytical and the intuitive. They are able to see and tackle problems differently, which positions MMM students for a variety of roles that create, develop and deliver innovation.
  • Earn two prestigious degrees
    Earning both an MBA from Kellogg and an M.S. in Design Innovation from the Segal Design Institute, the MMM Program provides a rigorous education that positions its graduates to drive innovation across industries.
  • Think and do
    In addition to required business and design innovation courses, students pursue advanced electives that serve his or her unique career interests. Dedicated studio space also allows students to explore, prototype and build ideas. MMM students are afforded the opportunity to apply classroom-gained knowledge in the context of real-world organizations through opportunities such as the Business Innovation Lab.
  • Build a stellar network
    MMM students hold membership in both the Kellogg and McCormick alumni networks. Additionally, the Northwestern MMM alumni network is the largest of its kind - an incredibly diverse yet tight-knit community. MMM alumni provide networking assistance to students seeking internships as well as graduates seeking full-time positions.

Westin spent many years developing technical and leadership skills as a product manager. To take his career to the next level, though, he wanted to learn design innovation. Kellogg’s MMM Program was the perfect fit, offering a balanced approach to management and design innovation while emphasizing technology in product and service development.


The MMM Program is a dual-degree, full-time program that equips students to drive the entire innovation life cycle of a product or service. The MMM Program comprises lectures, experiential courses and studio-based classes that take place in both the day and evening. Much of the core coursework in the curriculum requires technical aptitude and the capacity for both analytical and creative thinking. When you graduate from the program, you will find yourself with a new, unique perspective, one that allows you to balance big-picture ideas with the detailed processes that make those ideas come to life.
